The (still) Weekly Rumpus

The Weekly Rumpus is starting to come into its own. This week we have original fiction from Lucy Corin who third book of fiction, One Hundred Apocalypses and Other Apocalypses has just been released. We have the first installment of a new Rumpus column, Missed, by Katie Crouch, and a new Weekly Rumpus only column about Fantasy Football by J. Ryan Stradell. We might call it Fantasy Football For Poets.

Also, Sean Carmen reviews The Stench of Honolulu by Jack Handey and Jennifer Pastiloff’s amazing essay on jealousy, shame, and regret.

A lot of you, it turns out, don’t have iPads or iPhones. You’re Android people, maybe even flip-phone people (I have mad respect for flip-phone people, though, let’s face it, within three years you’ll cave) (there’s a thin line between a luddite and someone who’s slightly behind the times). Still, I’m fond of flip-phoners and imagine myself going back there often. I’m halfway, I’ve downgraded myself to an iPhone 3 which barely works on a slow network (H2o). But that’s not the point. Imagine, we’re the last generation that’s going to worry about spending too much time online.

So for our flip-phoners and Androids we’re going to do a PDF that we’ll send to you in an email. You can subscribe monthly here, or don’t subscribe and purchase yearly here. If you have an iPhone or an iPad I think the app is better than the PDF. Someday we’ll also have an Android app. You know Android is 80% of the world’s smartphone market? That’s what I read, anyway.

A little more about The Weekly Rumpus. The Weekly Rumpus comes out every Wednesday. There are three types of content in the The Weekly Rumpus Magazine. This week, and all weeks, there are parts exclusive to The Weekly Rumpus. The original fiction and J.Ryan’s Fantasy Football Fabrications, are both always exclusive to the magazine. The second type are pieces that will run on The Rumpus, but we’re publishing them first in The Weekly Rumpus. This week that includes Katie Crouch’s Missed column and Sean Carmen’s book review. The Missed column, by the way, represents so much of what we try to be about. It’s all about incredible cultural things, books-movies-music-art, that for some reason we failed to recognize when first released. A lot of books get overlooked but if Katie’s writing about it she’s writing about one of her favorite books, a work she cannot believe was poorly reviewed, or ignored. Katie wants to give these works a second life. Also, she’s a wickedly funny and entertaining and insightful writer.

Then there are pieces which we’ve already published but maybe you didn’t have time for. This week that would include Possession, by Jennifer Pastiloff. Or Antonia Crane’s Paying To Play: Interview With A John, which we published a year ago but we just stumbled across and felt like re-publishing.
